Dr. Brantly received his medical degree from the University of Florida Gainesville. He is the Vice Chair of Research for the Department of Medicine, Chief, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Professor of Medicine, Molecular Genetics, and Microbiology and Alpha-1 Foundation Research Professor at the University of Florida. He currently runs the Alpha-1 lab at the University of Florida and has taken part in every major Alpha-1 research effort over the years, including attempts to create transgenic alpha-1 protein, the landmark RAPID trial published in The Lancet in 2015, and current clinical trials of inhaled augmentation therapy.
