Assembly Chair
Wanda M. Gibson-Scipio,
Ph.D., FNP-BC, ATSF
Welcome to the ATS Assembly on Nursing website. It is an honor to serve as the Chair of the Assembly on Nursing for the next two years (2020-2022).
The Nursing Assembly is represented globally with members from national and international borders. Nursing Assembly members include scholars, clinicians, and educators within the profession of nursing or other related health professional groups. The breadth of the work of the assembly is undergirded by experts that care for and that conduct research to address the needs of populations across the lifespan, clinical settings, and geographic boundaries within the pillars of the ATS. Members also hold special interest and expertise in areas such as telehealth, health information technology, health care transitions, disease self-management, mental health, health behavior, rehabilitation, patient and family education, integrative therapies, occupational health, palliative care, end-of-life care and research methods to name a few. Our common interests are to improve the pulmonary health of patients, families, and communities through research, practice, education, training, and advocacy. We currently have active interest groups related to Integrative Therapies and Supplemental Oxygen. We also have a working group for Early Career Professionals.
If you are interested in participating in or collaborating with a committee or working group, please contact one of the Executive Committee members listed below to share your interest or request. I invite all members to get involved with the Nursing assembly and or other ATS committees and projects. Your involvement will serve as a valuable learning experience, an opportunity to enjoy professional development, and being active leads to rewarding networking to support future opportunities.
We welcome all health professionals, clinicians, and scientists who share common interests of the Nursing Assembly to designate our assembly as a primary or secondary assembly of choice. While many Assembly members are nurses, membership is NOT restricted to nurses. We welcome anyone who is interested in building interprofessional collaborations and/or shares our passion for excellence in research, teaching, advocacy, and patient care.
Nurses holding a doctorate degree (Ph.D. or professional doctorate) pay full dues. Members who do not currently hold a doctorate degree qualify for a reduced fee that provides all membership privileges except receipt of mailed official ATS journals. Nurses without a baccalaureate degree who have an interest in the activities of the Society are welcomed to join as affiliate members; affiliate members are not permitted to vote or hold office but can benefit from the mentoring, and networking within the assembly.
I look forward to working with our current members and welcoming future members to our assembly. Feel free to contact any member of the Executive Committee with your questions or feedback. Explore the “Get Involved” link on the ATS home page for further information on getting involved in ATS!
