James P. Kiley, M.S., Ph.D.

Dr. James Kiley serves as the Director of the Division of Lung Diseases at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).   Prior to this position, he was the Director of the National Center on Sleep Disorders Research at NIH.  Dr. Kiley received his education and training at Kansas State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.   He is a member of a number of professional organizations and has received numerous honors and awards for his outstanding contributions to advancing pulmonary biology in health and disease, sleep research, and public health. His major areas of interest include central nervous system control of respiration, and the pathophysiology of obstructive airways disease.  Dr. Kiley is the author or co-author of numerous scientific articles.
