Frank Accurso, MD

Dr. Accurso is Pulmonology Section Head at Colorado Children’s Hospital in Denver and medical director of the core laboratory at Colorado Children's Clinical Translational Research Center.  He is a trustee and Chair of the CF Foundation’s, Medical Advisory Council.  Dr. Accurso has been the lead clinical investigator for most of the major medical treatment advancements in Cystic Fibrosis in the past 30 years.  He has spent thousands of hours in the research laboratory and then many more hours preparing and presenting testimony at FDA hearings that have led to the FDA approval of over eight (8) new medical treatments for Cystic Fibrosis  in the past 30 years.

Dr. Accurso is loved by all of his patients and their families.  He is considered by many to be the most respected physician in the CF community.  When most children with CF only lived into their teens, Dr. Accurso made sure he was at the bedside of every patient when they were at the end of their life.  He knew how important that would be to his patients and their families.  If it took a toll on him emotionally he never said a word.  He is the ultimate physician servant putting the needs of his patients before his own needs.  No child under Dr. Accuro’s care ever had to worry about accessing the best care available at the time.  Dr. Accurso made sure everyone had equal access to care and treatment regardless of ability to pay.

As director of the Cystic Fibrosis Research and Care Center at Children's Hospital Colorado, Dr. Accurso has worked tirelessly in the face of many scientific obstacles although his humble nature and friendly disposition reveal little of his profound accomplishments.
