In a study performed by economist Mikko Packlen, they analyzed 20 million biomedical articles published in the last 70 years using a computer program developed to identify word strings in abstracts according to popularity they found younger scientists are bold. Young scientists tend to study more exciting and innovated topics and their mentors are likely to be involved only when they are supervising much younger scientists. This finding advocates for promotion and continuation of programs that fund the research of young scientists and encourages established principle investigators to embrace the daring ideas of their mentees.
