David Gozal, MD, MBA

 

David Gozal, MD, MBA, PhD (Hon) is the Marie M. and Harry L. Smith Endowed Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Child Health, and Pediatrician-in-Chie of MU Women’s and Children’s Hospital at the University of Missouri School of Medicine.  Dr. Gozal’s research focuses primarily on bench to bedside approaches to pediatric sleep disorders. Funded by several National Institutes of Health grants, he studies mechanisms that mediate defense responses, mechanisms that lead to complications from low oxygen levels and disrupted sleep, and long-term health consequences of chronic sleep and breathing problems throughout the lifespan. His projects encompass a wide range of subjects such as gene cellular regulation in hypoxia and sleep disruption, murine models of sleep disorders, and machine learning and multi-Omics approaches to clinical and epidemiological aspects of sleep disorders.

 

Dr. Gozal served as president of the American Thoracic Society in 2016-2017, is currently deputy editor-in-chief for the journal Sleep, and Associate Editor for European Respiratory Journal, Frontiers in Neurology, and Frontiers in Psychiatry.
