Work / Life Balance in Academia: Digital Boundaries as they relate to Mindfulness

Do you find yourself endlessly glued to your digital devices during work as well as after work hours? Do you struggle with mentally detaching from work after the workday has ended?

Tune in to our very intriguing podcast in the series of Work/Life Balance in Academia titled, "Redefining Success: Mindfulness and Digital Boundaries", hosted by the Respiratory Structure and Function Assembly, with Nirav Bhakta, MD/PhD in conversation with our guest speaker Jae Ellard, MS, an author and expert who specializes in behaviors that cause imbalance, disengagement, and distraction.

After years in senior communication roles crafting content for executives, Jae collapsed from stress-related adrenal fatigue. This life-altering experience propelled her interest in human behavior, neuroscience, mindfulness, and organizational relationship systems. Jae has dedicated her life to helping others, both individually and in teams, by inspiring awareness and recognition of patterns of destructive behaviors. She holds a MS in Communication Management, and a BA in Broadcast Communication. Jae has taught in over 50 countries to employees at multinational corporations such as Microsoft, Amazon and Expedia. An author of seven books on the topic, she is a columnist on workplace awareness and contributes to various publications. In 2008, Jae founded Simple Intentions and developed the Mindful Life™ Program to generate intentional conversations to disrupt patterns and create awareness, accountability and action at team and individual levels.

Dr. Bhakta received his MD/PhD from Stanford University. He is Assistant Professor, Director of Education at the Adult Pulmonary Function Laboratory, member of the Airway Clinical Research Center in the Department of Medicine and Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Sleep Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.
