In this podcast we interview two leaders in the field of surgical approaches to sleep apnea, Dr. Eric Kezirian and Dr. Ed Weaver. The discussion focuses on surgical approaches to sleep apnea in the context of clinical and physiologic phenotyping of OSA. Discussion points include the role of drug induced sleep endoscopy in surgical planning outside of hypoglossal nerve stimulation, the importance of surgery as part of a multi-modality approach to obstructive sleep apnea and a discussion on knowledge gaps and research needs for the field of sleep apnea surgery.

Dr. Kezirian is Vice Chair and Professor of Sleep Medicine at the University of Southern California’s Caruso Department of Otolaryngology. He is a leader in the surgical treatment of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea and was the President of the International Surgical Sleep Society. His research focuses on procedure selection for upper airway obstruction, surgical outcomes and the development of new surgical techniques and novel therapies.
Dr. Weaver is Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Washington and chief of Sleep Surgery. He also serves as co-director of the UW Medicine Sleep Center. He provides comprehensive surgical care of snoring and sleep apnea and has a research program focused on clinical epidemiology and outcomes in sleep apnea.
