Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are associated with a variety of sleep problems, especially insomnia. These sleep problems may contribute to behavioral challenges for children with ASD.
In this podcast, Dr. Jonathan Jun chats with Dr. Beth Malow, a pediatric neurologist at Vanderbilt University, about ASD and sleep disorders. They discuss topics such as the prevalence of childhood ASD and sleep problems, consequences of these sleep problems, behavioral and pharmacologic therapies, and research emerging from her laboratory.
In addition, Dr. Malow has provided a link to Tool Kits for improving sleep in children and teens with ASD, developed by the Autism Speaks Treatment Network. She also invites listeners to read a recent review about Sleep in Autism Spectrum Disorders.
