General Epidemiology

Asthma is a serious health problem that affects people in all countries across the globe. In many countries the prevalence of asthma is increasing with accompanying social costs due to increase health care utilization and lost productivity from missed work or school. There are several sources of good information regarding asthma prevalence and social burden(s). One should be certain to tailor the information source to the specific population being addressed as there is some variation among countries and also within country variation based on sex, gender, race, and age.

The following sites contain reliable information regarding both general asthma information and epidemiologic information. Many U.S. states have developed Asthma Management Programs and some also have Asthma Coalitions, both of which are usually coordinated via the Department of Public Health and generally welcome new volunteers so get involved!
