Innovations in Fellowship Education

2024 Innovation in Fellowship Education – Call for Abstracts Application is now closed.

Abstract Deadline: November 1, 2023

The American Thoracic Society (ATS) is calling all adult and pediatric fellowship training programs to submit abstracts showcasing innovative education work done within their pulmonary, critical care, sleep or allergy training programs for consideration for the 2024 ATS Innovations in Fellowship Education (IFE) Program.

Abstracts will be evaluated for their innovation, transferability, sustainability, and outcomes, with an emphasis on innovation. We are particularly interested in fellowship innovations addressing reducing racial/ethnic disparities or improving diversity, equity, or inclusion.

Highly rated abstracts will be invited to speak and share their educational innovation at the 2024 APCCMPD-ATS-PEPTDA Forum at ATS 2024 San Diego, California

Who can apply:

  • All pulmonary, allergy, critical care, and sleep fellowship training programs are eligible. Abstracts may be submitted by training program directors, associate training program directors, fellow trainees, or medical educators.
  • If you are not a program director submitting an abstract on behalf of your program, please have your fellowship program director send a brief email of acknowledgement to Lauren Lynch @ llynch@thoracic.org

Abstracts must meet the following criteria to be reviewed:

  • All formatting rules must be followed
  • Abstract has not been previously published elsewhere
  • Abstract describes an educational program which has been implemented at least once
  • Submission targets fellowship programs or fellows as learners

The deadline to submit Innovations in Fellowship Education abstract is November 1, 2023

The ATS Training Committee also encourages you to also submit your abstracts to the general ATS 2024 Call for Abstracts via the ATS Behavioral Science and Health Sciences Research (BSHSR) Assembly under the Professional, Education and Training sub-classification. If selected, the BSHSR Assembly, in collaboration with the Section on Medical Education, will program the Innovations abstracts in a session based on the best fit. The Innovations in Fellowship Education and ATS 2024 Call for Abstracts programs do have separate review processes and abstract submission websites.

Of note, this award focuses on projects related to fellowship education and curricula targeting fellows. Projects focused on medical student or resident education should still be submitted to the ATS International Conference but may not be best-suited to the Innovations for Fellowship Education award.
