Recent Attacks Against Asian Americans

The spate of violent attacks against Asian Americans is heartbreaking, as they demonstrate an ongoing culture of racism and violence against women. Such attacks have been driven by the words of leaders who have actively or tacitly encouraged racism related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The American Thoracic Society condemns racial intolerance and hate crimes against Asian Americans. We stand with those communities that have borne the brunt of indignities levied at them simply because of their race, ethnicity, or country of origin.

It is time–past time-- for our nation to take a critical look at the root causes of racism and take meaningful steps to exact change.
